As a wrap up activity for ELECTRICITY, 5th graders got the opportunity to use an amazing little piece of technology called a MakeyMakey. Students were introduced to the MakeyMakey during Career Centers. They were able to extend on their knowledge of how the MakeyMakey works. The MakeyMakey is an Arduino board which connects to the computer through a USB port. When students hook leads to the board and touch the leads, they are connecting electric circuits. Using everyday objects they can create a game controller. Groups created their own controller for different games, and then had the chance to play each others games.

5th graders did an amazing job with their Science Fair projects. We have been having a lot of HAIR RAISING fun in the STEM Lab. 5th grade has been learning all about electricity, magnets and electromagnets. We made hair raise with static electricity activities. Snap circuits helped them learn all about the basics of an electric circuits. Magnets and their relationship to electricity was also discussed. Then we made a simple electromagnet from a nail, wire and battery. |
